Social Ranks
In Ancient China, people were ranked above others because of their wealth, intelligence, or just popularity. The highest rank was the Emperor. He would be in charge of everything that happened where he ruled. He would be the most wealthy person in that part of china. Next came kings and governors, then state officials, nobles and scholars, then peasants and soldiers, and the lowest ranks, artisans merchants and slaves.

The Emperor
The Emperor of China was the title of any sovereign of Imperial China reigning between the founding of the Qin dynasty, until the abdication of Puyi in 1912. The emperor was also referred to as the "Son of Heaven", a title that predates the Qin unification and recognized as the ruler of "all under heaven". Emperors from the same family are classified in historical periods known as dynasties. During the Yuan and Qing dynasties China was ruled by ethnic Mongols and Manchus respectively.On one count, from the Qin dynasty to the Qing dynasty, there were 557 emperors including the rulers of minor states.
